Relation Toward Books La Regenta

I found this a bit of a struggle because it is so long - over 700 pages - but I did enjoy it in the main. The main characters are all struggling to one extent or another to control their sexual urges, or at least not allow them to get them into trouble, but of course they do. I thought the three main men were very believable, Don Fermin, a priest who lusts after one of his parishioners, Don Victor, who is unable to satisfy his wife, and Don Álvaro, who is a regular Casanova all appeared to beThis is basically the spanish (and creepier) Anna Karenina. It's a hard but satisfying journey.
Thirty years after reading it it remains in my mind as one of the most satisfying books I have had the pleasure to read
Marvelous novel, that told me the 19th century novel was alive and kicking in Spain - I had no idea. If you think you've run out of great 19th century novels, oh come here.
Great classic realism story, too bad it's XIX century literature and it drags and drags along for hundreds of inconsequential pages.

A great book, great characters and very human behaviors.
