Still Missing
Still Missing interweaves the year Annie spent as the captive of a psychopath in a remote mountain cabin, which unfold through sessions with her psychiatrist, with a second narrative following the events after her escape—her struggle to piece her shattered life back together and the ongoing police investigation into the identity of her captor.
Still Missing is a shocking, visceral, brutal and beautifully crafted novel.
OMG! I've just been on one of the scariest, most disturbing rides ever! What a nightmare - WOW!Annie O Sullivan, a Realtor, heads out to show a house one summer afternoon. Near the close of the open house, Annie is abducted by a potential client, a stranger who drugs and transports her to a remote mountain cabin on Vancouver Island where he repeatedly beats, rapes, and terrorizes her. As the days and nights of her captivity begin to blur together, Annie is forced to conform to the whims of a
I recommend that you don't read this if you are a female real estate agent as its guaranteed to give you the creeps next time you show a house on your own. Chevy Stevens was herself working as a real estate agent when she got this terrifyingly scary idea for her first book and consequently quit her job to write it. Annie O'Sullivan was a successful realtor on Victoria Island when she was abducted by a psychopath at the end of a house viewing and held captive for a year in an isolated mountain
Let me say quite frankly that me and STILL MISSING have been inseparable for the last three days. I have never wanted to turn pages faster than I did with the 340 in this book, all embodying the brazen, truthful, and wildly entertaining voice of abductee Annie O'Sullivan. It's actually difficult to use the words "wildly entertaining" in this review. It doesn't seem appropriate for the reality of the story. This book is terrifying, engrossing, heartwrenching, and shocking. It is so hard to stop
Annie OSullivan is a a 32-year-old realtor. She has a very difficult mother, a nice and understanding boyfriend, a beautiful house, a devoted dog and an amazing best friend....and all that is taken away from her one hot afternoon, while having an open house, when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she's about to leave. He's nice and friendly and says he's interested in buying and paying in cash, plus he apparently has a dog so he's got to be nice, right? Wrong!!!! The guy is seriously
This is a hard book to recommend because it doesn't fit nicely into any category, some people will gush about it and others will hate it. There are many good bits that are weakened by a touch of poor writing, often weighed down by cliched phrases and the author's tendency to underestimate the reader's intelligence - like her frequent use of irony, only to then explain why that's ironic as if we couldn't get that on our own. The guy who abducts her (who she calls "The Freak") gives her a book
Annie O'Sullivan, a real estate agent, sees one last potential customer at her open house and ends up abducted in the back of a van. Her year of captivity is told through her sessions with her psychiatrist. An emotional and traumatic story unfolds with Annie's captivity, her dealing with coping after that year and the search for the abductor coming out layer by layer. A painful but compelling story!
