Emma Claytons The Roar is one of those books I picked up to complete a deal in fact, I picked up both books in this series. Although the books were used as a means to ensure I reached the right number of books to get the offer, I was interested in giving this series a read. In fact, I was rather eager to dive in. Although I feel as though young adult dystopian has grown to be overly repetitive, I still have a weakness for the genre.Unfortunately, there was too much of that repetitiveness for me

I was very prepared to give this book four or possibly even five stars........... and then I finished it. The beginning caught my attention. The focus shifting from Ellie to Mika through me off a bit, but hey, I can deal with twists and turns and surprises. It keeps the story interesting and is why I read in the first place. There is a lot going on in this story and the writer does a decent job with it and the world building BUT I felt there was an extremist hidden agenda, the characters are very one dimensional and it goes on a bit too long in parts. Not reading the sequel!!

I'm excited for kids to get their hands on this book for book club. This book is an interesting look at social hierarchy and the deceit of the government. It also shows how one young boy will do anything to save his family. I can't wait to pick up the sequel!
