Ilustration Conducive To Books The Fate of a Man and Early Stories
There is restraint and a trace of sadness in the way Mikhail Sholokov begins his story, as if to warn the reader that it is not an easy tale he has to tell. One postwar spring the author met a tall man with stooping shoulders and big rugged hands. And perhaps for the first and last time soldier Andrei Sokolov told a chance acquaintance the story of his life, told how he endured tortures and sufferings that would have broken many a man of weaker nature... But Sokolov's torn and wounded heart is still eager for life and eager to share life with his little Vanya, orphaned by the war like himself. Sholokov's The Fate of a Man ends on a stern note. Yet as one closes the book one believes that Andrei Sokolov will give all the strength of his generous Russian soul to his adopted son and that the boy will grow at his father's side into another man who can overcome any obstacle if his country calls upon him to do so.Rating Out Of Books The Fate of a Man and Early Stories

This story deserves 4 stars but only gave 3 coz I'm not a big fan of world war 2 stories. But its a great tale about a Russian who had suffered from German Nazies. It was good to see after losing everything , how he finds something to life for. Another heartbreaking Sholokhov short story.I loved it, how touching it was, i'm glad they made us read this in literature...
I liked the book, it was quite different from "And Quiet Flows the Don", but still it is a touching book and easy to read and follow.
One of the greatest optimistic stories of Russian literature I have ever read. It's a story of travelling in history against crisis, crime, war, disaster and death. At the end its a story of life, a story of endless spirit to live.
loved the way the author can play to the readers emotions and bring you into the scenes. problems were: the auther really believes in communism and his characters saw it as their salvation. the author also showed Lenin in an extremly good light when he was just out to rule the world just like the rich supposedly did. I could see there were problems with the old system in Russia, but communism was not the answer.
The Fate of a Man is on par with Sholokhov's other masterpiece The Quiet Don. A very powerful account of a man whose life is ravaged by war but manages to regain hope in the form of an orphan he adopts. The early stories are interesting but they lack the staying power of his more mature works. Only worth reading if you're a fan of Sholokhov.
This was an amazing story that was wonderfully written. I feel as though the reader was given a glimpse of the eternal hardships of war and the burdens soldiers must carry with them long after the fighting has stopped. I would recommend this book to any one. Sometimes if feel that people become so far detached from the sacrifice and destruction of war when we have not been thorough it ourselves. But this book has birthed in me a gratefulness and empathy for the solider that I have never felt
