Narration Conducive To Books The Day Jesus Rode Into Croydon
Oh Lord, what a waste of time this was. It had so much promise, but blundered into so much ridiculousness I couldn't take it any more. I am more than willing to suspend belief where required, but this was just plain silly. As mentioned, it was good at first, cocooning me in the warm fuzziness of 80s nostalgia: quirky characters straight out of a Young Ones episode with overtures of a Madness video, childhood references and dry humour. Unfortunately around the 40% mark the author lost the plot and it fell flat into farce and nonsense. The coppers especially [eye roll] ...
Pity, the writing was for the most part good, but he needs to focus on improving characterisation, plot lines and, above all, punctuation.

Really liked it, needs a sequel desperately.Looks like a good website this, always handy to get an honest review. Thought I would start by recommending The Day Jesus Rode Into Croydon by Daryl Gould.A was at first intrigued by the title but after reading it in under a week (quick for me) I can say that this could well be the best book I've read in years. Clever, funny and very easy to get into. Would love to speak to people who have also read it and what they thought.
Is everyone going to like it? No but that only if you think the Da Vinci Code is amazing. This on the other hand is stunning and glad to see other reviews think the same. Truly, the best book Ive read last year. Not quite sure what else I can dd but to say I cant actually think when a plot has been this clever in literature. Anyone know when the sequel is coming out?
Great read, reminded me of a thoughtful Nick Hornby i.e. high fidelity.Easy to read and tight ambitous plot.
This book was absolutely dreadful. I read a lot of books but I cant remember the last time I read anything this bad. Its overloaded with superfluous dialogue and drawn out long winded passages that go nowhere. I cant understand how it even got published. It reads like it was written by a child who received a thesaurus for Christmas. How it received so many glowing reviews is anyones guess. I know what my guess is. Definitely one to avoid.
Wow! Dont get books like this coming along very often.
Found myself thinking about this book even when I wasnt reading it. About half way through it was messing with my head because it doesnt fit into your normal genre so was left guessing what next but when it does all make sense, you know you've read something special.
